Creamed Peas and Pearl Onions

This creamed peas and onions is the perfect classic side dish that brings back memories of traditional Sunday dinners. The combination of sweet peas and pearl onions in that rich, velvety cream sauce is pure comfort food. It's the kind of old-fashioned recipe that pairs beautifully with roast chicken, ham, or any hearty main dish.

Ingredients

½ -pound frozen pearl onions

1-pound frozen peas

3 T butter

2 T all-purpose flour

1 ½ cups heavy cream

½ cup whole milk

¼ t black pepper

Directions

In a large pot, boil water and add peas and onions. Cook 8 minutes. Drain and set aside in a bowl.

In a large skillet over medium heat, add flour and butter. With a whisk, mix to create a roux. When the flour has cooked and the roux is thick, add heavy cream, milk, and pepper. Whisk until thickened. Add cooked peas and onions and simmer about 6 minutes or until heated through.
